A SAMPLE FROM SHARDS:

THE BLIZZARD

A blizzard of impeccable quality,
With winds that'd rip your cheeks off.

Nothing city-slicker about this beast,
An arctic rival howling down Bishop,
Racing round the corner at Ste-Catherine,
Ricocheting off cop cars,
Urgence santé, Purolator.

Sidewalkers doubled over,
Clenching overcoats, scarves and teeth.

It threw back its wild, snowy mane and belly-laughed.
A vicious comic,
Icy fingers tickling under skirts
And whipping away clacques;
Rolling drunks into burgundy stains in the snow.

Oh, but it had a violence so supreme,
Blue and white and raging,
Then echoing off to Maine.
