OLMSTEAD-JEFFREY
LAKE in the Ottawa Valley dates its recorded history
to the visit by French explorer Samuel de Champlain
in 1613. Champlain was using the chain of lakes along
the Muskrat River to avoid rapids on the Ottawa River.
Near here he lost his astrolabe, a navigational instrument.
It was found 254 years later. Above is a re-enactment
of his visit.
THE
OLMSTEAD-JEFFREY LAKE ASSOCIATION, sponsor of this
history book project, is made up of summer and permanent
residents who enjoy living alongside the waters of this
historic lake.
