BRIGHTON
comes alive through stories of pioneers, pirates,
frontiersmen, rumrunners, shipwrecks, Doc the Racing
Dog, murder, explorers, community builders and ghosts.
The book explores the lives of Dr. Billy King, Willy
Ketchum, Mark Kellogg, Muskrat Lawson and scores of
others.
It begins with tales from French explorer Samuel de
Champlain in 1615. The wreck of the sailing ship Speedy
killed not only all passengers on board, but dreams
of establishing a town at Presquile. The Brighton
story weaves together the importance of this Lake
Ontario seaport and the development of Brightons
industrial role in the formation of Canada. However,
the advent of the iron horse and the building of Canadian
Pacific Railway diminished Brightons hope of
being a major player in the growth of the nation.
This publication will combine past information and
contemporary research to document Brightons
rich and varied history. It will include many photos
never before published.
