What is Wallbridge House Publishing?
Wallbridge House Publishing is a small company
located in Belleville, Ontario, which specializes
in producing local history books. These include Hub
of the Rideau, a history of South Crosby Township
in the Rideau Lakes; Our Mutual Century, the history
of the Hamilton Township Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance
Company; and Rolling Hills of Northumberland, a history
of Northumberland County, Ontario.
Who
is involved in Wallbridge House Publishing?
Orland and Sylvia French are the principals, working
with contract photographers and writers to produce
works of excellence. Orland has an extensive journalistic
background as a writer with the Kingston Whig-Standard,
the Ottawa Citizen and the Globe and Mail. He has
also taught journalism at Loyalist College, Belleville,
and was Visiting Professor of Journalism at the University
of Regina (1998-99). Sylvia provides assistance as
editorial consultant, proof-reader, fact-checker and
records-keeper.
What
is the philosophy of Wallbridge House Publishing?
The company produces history books that people
will read for enjoyment and entertainment as much
as for information. Text and photos are presented
in such a way as to draw readers into the book. Dry
history is made to come alive through the extensive
use of "people" pictures and personal anecdotes. History
is made irresistible even to those who purport to
have little interest in it.
What
does Wallbridge House Publishing offer to clients?
The company offers a complete publishing package,
from determining a concept of the book to delivering
the final product. These editorial services include
assistance in costing out the project, providing editorial
content, layout and design, supervising selection
of a printer and working with the printer to produce
the book for the client. The company does not market
and distribute the book.
